A good friend of mine had lunch with me last Saturday in Taipei. It was a beautiful day — sunny, not too hot nor cold; it was perfect. We went to a new trendy venue; it is a traditional Taiwanese delight with excellent Chinese tea, and the decoration is a semi-retro apothecary-like. And they served the cold Chinese tea in a tall wine glass, and it looks quite interesting.
My girlfriend told me that she is a bit lost at work and somehow feels pointless with her career. There is always the office politics. We all know — been there and done that. Yup, I do not appreciate it, but it is what it is. You either suck it up or made a change about it and move on with your life. She told me that she is thinking of becoming a professional interpreter to utilize her language and people’s skills. I echoed it right away.
She then asked me: ”Hey Vivian, do you think I should enroll in a professional program and perhaps obtain an academic degree as an interpreter?
“Have you tried to be an interpreter?” I asked.
“No. I haven’t.” She said.
“Why don’t you try it first and see if you like it before you decide anything?” I further…
