Be Ready To Be Humbled; Don’t be an Ignorant Smart Ass

The 30/70 Rule: say 30% of what you know; leave some space for people to think and question about

I was reading an article by Tim Denning, Be Proud When You’re the Dumbest Person in the Meeting Room, and I simply love it.

It reminds me of what my professor, Prof. Richard Harris, said when I submitted one long essay on the troubled economy of Japan during my study.

He said:” Vivian, are you starting your graduate program with us?”

“Yes, sir,” I replied with some hesitation. Not sure if I did anything wrong.

“Be ready to be humbled.” Richard further said.

Be Ready To Be Humbled.

It is a line I never forget; I put it in my heart and remind myself of it every moment.

Be the Dumbest Person In The Room

The article I mentioned earlier also reminds me of what I have been doing over the last 20 years — I always put myself in that particular situation; be the dumbest person in the room.

Quite frankly, I enjoy being the dumbest person in the room.
