The Truth Will Reveal — Hang In There My Friends!
Have you ever done something that you wish no one ever find out? How about you wish you could go back in time and do it again? Have you repeatedly done something you regret? Have you thought about why that happened to you?
I will tell you my answers to the above questions at the end of this story.
“Vivian, you are Vivian, right?” a lady called out my name while I was shopping with my best friend.
I was in and out of a changing room when she called me. Honestly, I saw her before she walked into the boutique. She was talking loudly so I can hear her miles away. I recognize her voice. She was my temporarily superior for a few months — Frankie.
It was a nice afternoon in the summer. My best friend R. was visiting Taipei, so we had lunch at the newly opened Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse at the Breeze Center Nanshan Taipei. After that, we decided to go shopping at one of my favourite boutiques. I heard Frankie’s voice when I was trying clothes. But I was busy shopping, so I just do my thing.
I don’t like her.
She is someone who butters up superiors and steps down anyone below that. Everyone who has worked with her, in all aspects, confirmed that view throughout the years after I left that company. She took advantage of her team members, exploited all she could at suppliers, yelled or scolded in a humiliating way to put others down. She does whatever she is capable of getting her way. Worst yet, she has a thick skin. She has no work ethics and quite a liar. Honestly, I can’t do what she does — she beats me in this regard.
In Chinese, there is a saying: if you are shameless, you are basically invincibly. (But you are disgusting! I think.)
I don’t know how to react to that line, but it is so true in a very sad way.
Think about this: if you would let go of values and believes, and just to do whatever it takes to reach your goals and not even care about right from wrong for once, can you imagine what you are capable of? Well, of course, I don’t know what kind of animal that is — perhaps it is a monster. But I am sure you are with me on this, as we have all witnessed some…
